Earlier everything was simpler, selling depended on a mixture of boots on the ground and the circulation of ads and hard copy marketing materials. In this way most small businesses were restricted to selling locally. Insurance was therefore set up based on a domestic business model. That’s all about it. Today a website can bring in customers from anywhere with access to the internet. Indeed, with SEO services working overtime, your business can be on top of the Google rankings and sell around the world. Everything that can limit you is your ability to supply the goods to meet demand. Except once you sell across national borders, a whole raft of legal problems can arise not the least of which is how to get paid. Good to know, the federal government has produced a solution. It’s called the Export-Import Bank of the United States. This is designed to keep jobs in the US by providing private export financing and help to foreign buyers to purchase from US suppliers. In 2012, the Bank approved a total spend of $35.8 million, of which just over $6 millions went to very small businesses. It’s estimated this has preserved at least a quarter-million full-time jobs.

Yet this is not enough on its own. Even if you believe your business may be able to make the sales with financial confidence it does not mean it will. But it gets hard when it goes for the different laws and regulations about product safety and liability. What may be a perfectly legal product for the US market may contain raw materials banned from sale in other countries, or the law where sales are made may impose strict liability on the manufacturer if a consumer buys a product and is injured when using it. That is the reason to start a detailed research before you accept orders. It may be necessary to change manufacturing specifications or the labels. And if you have everything in compliance with the requirements of each new market, you should then come to the question of insurance.

You may sell goods or services – the general rule is that you are liable for all the losses flowing naturally from a breach in the duty of care owed to your customers. In this situation, it does not matter where the customers are resident. You could find yourself facing proceedings either in your own US state or in the country where you sold or both. This is not the type of litigation you could or should attempt to deal with yourself. Firstly, you need people with expertise in conflict of laws and cross-border litigation. Secondly, you need small business insurance to pay for that expertise. So there’s the set-up you need to grow your business. You will be given financial backing from the federal agency. Your own research will ensure it’s legal to sell into each target market. Small business insurance will keep you out of trouble if liabilities arise from these export sales.

In the world of capitalism, people invest in resources that generate a return. In this case, they buy a fleet of vehicles and, when people want to go places, they come along and buy time in one of the vehicles. Once you have paid for a vehicle and covered administrative, storage and maintenance costs, all other revenue is profit. But here’s an interesting fact. If you look across America, there are millions of passenger vehicles that are only used for a few hours a week. The rest of the time, they sit unused in a garage or in the yard. This is a massive resource of unused capital, i.e. each owner has money tied up in he vehicle but, so long as it’s sitting in the garage, it earns no return. Welcome to the world of peer-to-peer carsharing. The theory is wonderful. Individual owners rent their own cars out to others in exactly the same way as car rental companies. For this to work, owners indicate where their vehicles are kept and the hours they are available. Local people then pay to drive these vehicles.

The reason for writing about this phenomenon now is that one of the flagship leaders in this social/commercial experiment was Whipcar, a UK company that began operations in 2010, has just gone into liquidation. It cannot make the business model work. Coming to the US, personal vehicle sharing is an increasingly mainstream reality, allowing neighbors to share without invalidating their private auto insurance policies. Without the Californian lawmakers help, a commercial arrangement would break the domestic use terms in the standard policy. In times when owning a vehicle is expensive, this gives an option to generate an income. In other states, there has to be a central insurance policy which replaces the private insurance whenever the vehicle are rented out.

So the question is social and practical. Would you rent out your own vehicle to someone you did not know? No matter what the supposed economic benefits to come from earning an income from an unused asset, would you take the risk of the vehicle being damaged or stolen by the person who booked online? If the answer to this question is yes, this is a real challenge to the business model of the car rental companies. People can rent their neighbor’s car for a fraction the price charged by the commercial organization. But if there’s a serious lack of trust, car rental companies can continue without having to locate their vehicles in local collection centers or reduce their rates, i.e. giving less friendly service. So far, the social car rental services are making progress in Europe, but are having a less significant impact here in America. This takes the pressure off the large centralized car rental companies to improve the quality of their services. Keep your eye on local news to see whether the social plan is coming to an area near you.

For sure, there are individuals who prefer Bing, but the majority of people around the world rely on Google to tell them what they need to know and find the things they want. Among search engines Google has achieved a dominant position. Yet, curiously, it sits in the middle and never seems to accept it’s accountable for whatever people use it to find. In this regard Google is a little like the gun manufacturers who make the product and blame the people for the way it’s used. Looking at the broader picture, of course, there’s nothing to worry about. Observing its annual report on the top trends in searches, Google revealed the people in 2012 were obsessed by Whitney Houston, tried to learn how to do it Gangnam style, and were curious about the extent of the damage following Superstorm Sandy. These tendencies are no more as the usual interest in suicide, destruction and the latest dance moves, not forgetting Felix Baumgartner who, somewhat remarkably, has become the first person to break the sound barrier without the use of a vehicle. If you want to do the same, all you have to do is climb 24 miles up into the Earth’s stratosphere and jump back down. Regretfully, there can be a darker side to the way the searches work.

One of the most heavily marketed products is the erectile dysfunction pills. Wherever you go or look, the odds favor you seeing an ad for one of the drugs. It’s highly possible, you’ll find spam there when you open your emails. So how would you feel if every time you input your name into the Google search box, the results came back linking your name to the erectile dysfunction pills? This is exactly what has happened to Beverly Stayart. She does not have the most common of names. If you Googled it you would expect to find a wholesome image. She’s an advocate for animal rights, researches genealogy, writes poetry, and generally tries to live a quite life. Except she’s consistently found Google links her name with the erectile dysfunction drugs.

Now it seems, it was probably a mistake to sue because, as more people began to talk about her problem, more links were created between her personal name and the names of the erectile dysfunction pills. And it is really so: the longer the litigation has gone on, the worse the problem has become. It’s like Google is punishing her for having the temerity to sue in an attempt to protect her good name. The ultimate result has been a disappointment for Beverly Stayart. The 7th US Circuit Court has just ruled Google has not misused her name to generate advertising revenue. Despite the fact our heroic lady has never taken a cent in commission, she’s now actively helping to sell Cialis and the other drugs. You would think the least the manufacturers of Cialis would do is offer her a few dollars. But to them, it’s all free publicity.

Despite the many treatments that exist to try and stave off visible hair loss, there are plenty of great examples out there of powerful bald role models. If you’re deciding whether or not to commit to going totally bald, here are a few great acts to follow.

Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis is so tough, it almost makes you want to shave your hair off just to look like him. Whether outsmarting bad guys or helping a kid who sees dead people, no one looks at Bruce Willis and thinks “If only he’d get a toupee.” Mr. Willis is inarguably one of the top role models for wearing your baldness with pride.

Vin Diesel

Another actor on this list, Vin Diesel is an undeniably impressive action star. You wouldn’t dare to think less of him because he doesn’t have a full head of hair. He’d probably beat you up if you even suggested such a thing. In real life, he’s actually a former English major who also speaks fluent Italian, as if you needed more proof that looks can be deceiving.

Michael Jordan

His lack of hair hasn’t held Michael Jordan back from an incredibly successful career one bit. One of the most recognized, successful and highly paid sports stars of all time, Michael Jordan has done a good job at making bald his trademark look as well.

James Carville

Known as the man who helped promote the relatively unknown governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton, into the rank of presidency (twice), James Carville also sports a flashy, shiny head. He also successfully hosted the political show Crossfire on CNN, and continues delivering insightful political commentary. Currently, he can be found teaching political science classes at Tulane University.

Sigourney Weaver

While not naturally bald, Sigourney Weaver made a huge impact in Aliens III with her new bald look. If you’ve watched any of the Alien franchise movies, you’ll know that the lack of hair didn’t hamper her character from destroying those critters in any way.

Sean Connery

The original James Bond has been bald so long that he actually wore a toupee while filming his most well-known part. These days, he doesn’t bother to hide his hair loss under anything artificial. And he’s still considered one of the best actors of his generation, while consistently voted one of the sexiest movie stars of all time.

The Rest of Us

The celebrity figures listed above make going bald look easy, classy, brilliant, talented, tough or all of the above at the exact same time. That doesn’t mean the bald look is right for everyone, however. If you don’t quite feel up to rocking the look as well as Bruce Willis or Michael Jordan, consider treatment with Propecia. For use only in men, Propecia can help slow down further hair loss while promoting regrowth, for those who aren’t quite ready to fully embrace their baldness.

Though many people are still trying to deny the fact that there’s something going on with the global climate, the violent acts of nature that have manifested only during the last couple of years are more than enough to convince any skeptic in the power of nature. Floods, windstorms, earthquakes, wildfires, hurricanes tornadoes – we’ve seen too much of those recently, and it’s not a problem of a particular area. Nearly all parts of the USA have been affected by at least one natural disaster of a large scale during the last several years. And the usual aftermath of such events is calculating losses. Each natural disaster costs millions and even billions of dollars for the insurance companies to cover, and even more losses are left on the hands of those who didn’t get proper insurance in the first place. Do you want to make part of those people?

Of course, having cheap insurance is something that almost any driver is looking for these days. But unfortunately, cheap car insurance and proper disaster car insurance coverage don’t go very well together. Sure, you can save some money with lower premiums over a long period of time. But what if your car gets blown away by a tornado or flooded during a severe storm? As mentioned i the first passage, things like that tend to happen more often these days and it’s not so unlikely that your particular car will be affected by one of such events. All you will end up with is a complete wreck that no one will pay a penny for unless you bring it to a local scarp yard. And you could actually get the loss covered in full by simply getting proper coverage against natural disasters.

The easiest way to get covered against a natural peril is to purchase comprehensive coverage. This coverage option deals with all types of damage unrelated to traffic: storm, fire, theft, riot, vandalism, falling trees and so on. Under normal circumstances comprehensive coverage should pay for a totaled vehicle that has been damaged in the course of a natural disaster. However, when you look deeper into the details it turns out that it’s not as simple as buying just a single coverage option. First, the providers usually have exclusions for particular types of damage such as flood, so in fact comprehensive coverage isn’t as comprehensive as you might think. Moreover, if a particular type of damage is more common in a particular area, there is a high chance that you’ll need additional coverage for it. A very good example is the Tornado Alley, where tornado damage is excluded from all insurance policies and has to be purchased additionally as a weaver. So if you want to get your vehicle covered properly against natural disasters you will have to check the details first and add the types of damage that have been excluded.

Sure, it may seem like getting so many coverage options is not the best solution for cheap car insurance. But it’s a situation where the possible risk outweighs the benefits of savings some money. Besides, no one said that you shouldn’t shop around. We all know how comparison shopping can help getting cheap car insurance, so why should additional coverage restrict you from comparing insurance quotes. Who knows, maybe you’ll be so lucky that you’ll get both the cheap car insurance and all the useful coverage against natural disasters?

It isn’t just adults that need auto insurance. Auto insurance policies are needed by teen drivers as well, but many teens are now having to look for ways to help their parents pay for their insurance premiums because the teen driver car insurance rates can be rather steep. While helping financially by getting jobs during the summer is a good thing, another way for you to help ease your parents’ worries is for you to learn practical things on how to take care of your car. This includes learning how to jumpstart a dead battery, to not texting while driving, to changing a flat tire.

For many a responsible teen drivers, the question of whether they should stay under their parents’ auto insurance policy or buying their own comes into play. Sharing a policy with your parents is a good idea because your parents are able to get lower rates that are usually unavailable to teen drivers. Things like owning a house or being married are factored in one’s auto insurance policy. While looking for the cheap car insurance quotes is a good idea, gathering information on car insurance quotes alone will not suffice if you really want to make a good decision on whether you should get your own policy or not. Another good thing about staying under your parents’ policy is the discount that they can get from having multiple vehicles enrolled under one insurance policy.

The fact that adding an inexperienced driver into their policy will make their policy more expensive can also be neutralized or balanced by your parents’ records. If you get your own auto insurance policy, your age will be used against you. This is definitely not a good thing that is why it is better to be rated as a group or with a group if you are aiming for cheaper car insurance. Another wonderful thing about being enrolled under your parents’ policy is that you will get higher limits since your parents will be shouldering the expenses.

Buying your own policy however can be a liberating experience for you because you will no longer have to answer to anyone and you can use your car anytime you want. Doing this will also be a great experience for you in terms of dealing with financial responsibility which will definitely help you mature faster than your peers. Buying your own policy will impress your parents as well. You will also be able to pick what types of coverage you need without you having to share a policy with your parents and having to pay a little extra for the coverage they want all of you to have.

The scary part is, you would have to pay for everything. You must remember that if you do not pay your policy your coverage will be revoked. As a result you would have to drive without insurance which is definitely a bad thing.

If you are under 18, insurers will definitely not sell you a policy considering that you are a newbie on the road. If an insurer does sell you a policy, you will have to pay a very hefty price because you won’t be benefitting from your parents’ discounts anymore.

Student drivers usually look for the most affordable auto insurance they could find but the question is, should you really try to get your own auto insurance policy at this stage?

Student driver insurance are rather costly since you are less experienced on the road compared to other drivers. Even if your driving history is a clean slate, getting your own policy is definitely a bad idea -at least on the financial aspect of things.

You can always take a look at real cheap car insurance quotes though since there is no harm in researching on what is on offer but even if you get the cheapest car insurance quotes for student drivers, your premium will still be relatively high.

Staying under the policy of your parents is a better idea because you will be able to save money by doing so especially if they offered to pay for it just as long as you stay under their wing. This is a temporary thing anyway and when you’re ready and you are more experienced, you can get your own auto insurance policy.

If you are really excited to get your own policy, you should keep in mind that you will no longer benefit from the discounts of your parents. Your parents have things that you haven’t achieved yet -they own a house which means they are entitled to few cuts here and there, they are married which means more discounts, and they have a multiple car policy that entitles them to yet more discounts. Getting your own insurance policy of course has its good points because you will learn how to handle your finances at an early stage in your life. You just have to be sure that you will be able to pay for the policy otherwise your coverage will be discontinued and you will no longer have any protection while driving. Not having car insurance is definitely a dangerous thing to do and even if you feel that you are mature enough, risking something like this will only make your parents worry.

You can always work on improving your grades if you do decide to stay on your parents’ car insurance policy and want to try and save them some money on the expensive premium caused by your lack of experience as a driver. Doing well in school will open a lot of doors for you i.e. having access to scholarships and the like and will also help your parents save more money because they would be able to get a discount because your report card has a 3.0 average or higher. For insurers, students who perform well in school are likely to be more responsible drivers than their peers who slack off on their school work. Your parents will also be proud of you if you get good grades.

Hugh Hefner has admitted to taking Viagra. So has Jerry Springer. Jack Nicholson, too.

It’s still not a discussion often shared over a pint, but more and more men are taking medication to treat their erectile dysfunction (ED). In the past, men would feel ashamed and embarrassed about this condition. Now, they probably just feel relieved that there’s an effective treatment.

Men aren’t embarrassed the way they used to be and why should they be? ED isn’t anyone’s fault. If you suffer from it, it doesn’t make you any less of a man. And it certainly doesn’t mean you don’t find your partner attractive anymore. In fact, once you hit a certain age, its more common to have problems with ED than not to. A men age, ED becomes the norm, not the exception. And now, our society is starting to realize this.

Years ago, ED caused stressful, tense relationships. Women didn’t understand why their husbands could no longer perform and neither could their husbands! They would automatically think the men in their lives were no longer sexually aroused by them, and that would cause serious problems in the relationship. It could destroy the self-esteem of both partners. It caused a lot of unhappiness.

In the early days of Viagra, men would be ashamed over having to take it. They might not tell their wives, and if they did, these women might take it personally. People didn’t know very much about the condition yet, so there was still a large stigma attached. These days, wives are not only aware of Viagra they might be the first to suggest this little blue pill!

Nowadays, men don’t need to be ashamed by their ED. The resources are available for them and their partners– to learn about it and understand it. Men now understand that ED is very common as they get older, and that it can be a side effect of many other conditions, like diabetes or hypertension. Their partners, too, are more comfortable with the subject. They no longer feel unattractive and undesirable; after all, if Hugh Hefner needs a little blue pill, it’s hard to attribute ED to an undesirable partner!

These celebrities have done other men a favor by coming forward, stating they have ED, and stressing that they are not ashamed of it. They’ve paved the way for the average Joe to talk to their partners, their doctors, or even their friends about it. The stigma and embarrassment formerly attached to ED is disappearing, and being replaced by people talking openly about the condition.

When most drivers think about practicing caution in inclement weather, the thought of high winds doesn’t cross their minds. In reality, high winds can be just as dangerous to drive in as rain, snow or ice. Following these tips for handling your vehicle in strong gusts can help keep you and your passengers safe, while keeping car insurance rates low by avoiding accidents.

Use Extra Caution

As with any serious weather conditions, you should always use extra caution when driving in high velocity winds. Not only for your own car, but also granting a lot of extra space to others on the road, particularly those in higher-profile vehicles or towing trailers. Wind can mean compromising the amount of control you have over your car, so it’s best to be very vigilant and avoid distractions like listening to music or talking on your cell phone.

Also, practice extra caution when navigating. Don’t follow other vehicles too closely, or pull in front of them too rapidly. The pressure the winds exert on moving vehicles can change the way your car handles, and lead to unexpected consequences.

Slow Down

Although the posted speed limits should always be used as a guide, remember that those speeds are intended for safe driving under perfect road and weather conditions. When weather does kick up, don’t continue at high speeds; instead, slow down a bit to give yourself more reaction time. If the wind is strong enough to push your car out of its lane or otherwise off-course, you won’t have enough time to make a correction if you’re already traveling at very high speeds.

Know Your Car

Many drivers prefer larger cars for multiple reasons: they have more cargo space, can hold more passengers and just feel safer on the road. One place where larger cars are far less safe is on any road being buffeted by high winds. Larger vehicles have more surface area for the wind to push against, causing the vehicle to be shoved around on the road. If you’re starting out on a trip in a van or SUV, know that the build of your vehicle makes you more susceptible to the dangers of driving in high winds.

Be Prepared

It only takes one accident to hike up your auto insurance rates, so it pays to be prepared on the roads. One hazard of high winds that drivers rarely consider is the possibility of reduced visibility and the increased chances of road debris. Even if there isn’t any rain along with the wind, those gusts are kicking up dust and dirt, making the road ahead (and any traffic) very hard to see clearly. High winds will also blow all kinds of things into your path, from tumbleweed to tree branches and any other garbage that’s lying around. Again, drive cautiously and be as braced as possible for the unexpected obstacle to blow in from the shoulder.

By following these tips to stay safe on the road in high winds, you’ll be able to keep your auto insurance rates at a reasonable level, while taking extra care of yourself and your passengers.

When shopping around for car insurance quotes, you could end up seeing widely varying numbers. Indeed different car insurance companies can charge you significantly different amounts. However, each company has their own system that they use when coming up with a quote. One might place more emphasis on the location of the client, for example, while another might think their credit rating is more important.

Even though different companies focus on different areas, the same basic factors are used to determine car insurance quotes. This includes the safety features in the car. Older cars are usually lacking in this department; new technology is added almost every year, making cars safer and safer. Here are some of the safety features that will help you see lower car insurance quotes.

Airbags. These days you’ll see airbags in almost every new car, but that wasn’t always the case. Even in the middle to late 1990′s, there were still cars being produced without airbags. That means that if your car is an older model, it may be lacking this key safety feature. It’s also not just the presence of airbags that makes a difference; the number and location also play a part. Some new vehicles are now being produced with up to nine airbags, but four is considered standard.

Anti-lock braking systems (ABS). This is another feature found in most new cars on the market. If you have to make a hard brake, your vehicle’s ABS will keep your wheels from locking up. This makes it easier to control the car on difficult surfaces, and it lets you keep steering your car even after you slam on the brakes.

Electronic stability control (ESC). ESC works with the ABS to improve a vehicle’s response to a situation. Basically, it is a computerized system that helps you keep control of the vehicle during high-speed turns, while driving on slippery surfaces, or when you suddenly need to brake or swerve. This is still quite a new technology; it didn’t become mandatory in new vehicles until 2012. THis means that if your vehicle is more than a few years old, it probably does not have ESC.

Crumple zones. A crumple zone is a structural feature generally found in the front section of a vehicle. They are designed to absorb the energy of a collision, thus protecting the driver and passengers inside the car.

Buying a car with great safety features will certainly help you see lower car insurance quotes, but that’s not the end of the story. Sure, it’s nice to save money each month, but paying attention to the safety features when buying a car does much more than that; in the terrible case of disaster, these features can save your life.
